it's summer time, and that means that instead of constant studying and facebook stalking, i'm at home with my sewing machine and other craft and art supplies and i'm doing that instead!

these are a few of the things i've been up to lately...

this is a little clutch wristlet i made to keep my cell phone, keys and id in at school... i broke my cell phone fall semester from carrying it around by itself and dropping it fall semester.

my new summer tote bag i made. i found the fabric at joann's and it reminded me of a picnic blanket, so i decided it needed to be made into my newest tote.

i made this out of newspaper i colored on with crayola markers and collaged with elmer's glue for a friend who goes to school in nyc for fashion design for one of her finals--she did a study with mail art. she mailed me this 8x8 canvas, and the day i got it at school, the mail ladies were so confused as to what it was--stace sent it just as a blank canvas with my address written on the back.

finally, i made something for myself. i've been so busy making bags and such to sell to raise money for college, but i decided the other day that the bag i've been planning for my new school bag since the beginning of june was going to be finally made.

first, let's start with this: last time me and my friends went into the city, my best friend bought one of those loop/andy warhol totes at urban outfitters. for thirty eight bucks. i thought that was insane, but i loved the bag. i decided to create my own, with something that i loved painted on it... a side street in new york.

the original tote, the picture i took in the city that i based mine off of...

this is the front of my bag. i painted the street scene with acrylics mixed with textile medium onto the canvas that i also reinforced with interfacing. it says "baby's coming home no more" from thoroughly modern millie.

this is the inside... the andy warhol one has a few pockets inside and some other nifty little things, but i just put my usual pocket for my phone and some pens inside this one.

however, i did add two bigger pockets to the back. they are perfect for holding my pocket book, my sunglasses and some joy reading.

the size of the andy warhol bag was another thing i liked - it was huge. or at least, to me it was huge. so mine's quite big, too. keep in mind i'm about five foot one.

so i got a whole bunch of nice, new fabric last weekend. i ordered two prints from reprodepot.com and found another one at wal-mart.

and, i used interfacing for the first time. i kind of like it.

i've made two bags, using one of the reprodepot prints and the wal-mart one. here they are:

everyone who ate my steeler cookies during the afc championship game loved them, and they requested i make them again for the super bowl.

so, in honor of the steelers going to super bowl xl in detroit... i made more steeler cookies! i outdid myself this time, not only making ones with the steeler emblem on them but also ones with favorite players numbers on them.

hmmm. i can't wait til tonight to eat them.

tyler took me shopping last weekend, and while we were at target and i was trying to find some adorable little kid valentine cards to give out to my friends, i came across a valentine's day ice cube tray. and since they didn't have any arthur or blue's clues valentines, i thought "hmm... i could make soap with this ice cube tray and give them out for valentine's day!"

so i bought the tray. and this week, i tried it out.

i put five of them in my shop to see if they'd sell. they probably won't, but i'm not losing anything by listing them. i'm probably going to make more this weekend... little soaps are so much more fun to make than regular sized ones, they cool and harden so much faster. it took me about two hours to make four dozen little soaps, and that includes the hardening of them and popping them out of the tray. so much fun.

this bag took me longer than i had planned, but it's ok because it turned out better than i could have ever hoped. first, it's not a tote bag. second, i drew out the pattern for it and everything. third, it's not a tote bag. :D

school is back in after christmas, as well as the gymnastics team and musical, so i haven't had quite as much time as i would like to sew and make fun bags and such. however, last sunday i did make a new bag and yesterday i made a new one. they are similar, but quite exciting.

the first bag is made with brown corduroy, and is about 7 inches tall. it's pretty small, and was a pain to sew all together.

the second bag is a larger bag, about 14 inches tall. this is the size i usually make, but man. the stitching design on the outside took forever to do. i was not expecting that after i made the little one.

hmmm. the next time i'll probably get to play with my sewing machine is next weekend - i have two meets this week, musical rehearsal and midterms. should be fun.

so. christmas. totally an awesome holiday. bringing family together to celebrate the birth of christ, and also a wonderful chance for santa claus to bring presents. santa claus brought me the greatest invention in homework procrastination, a sewing machine of my own! i guess "santa" was tired of me using her machine.

here's my darling machine, works like a charm. the threading process is simple enough for me to do on my own, and if i forget how, there are pictures on my machine to guide me. it's amazing.

and then, my first project on my new machine was, of course, a tote bag. gotta love making tote bags.

i really dislike snow that is frozen so solid that you can slide across the top of the snow. i wish it was nice and fluffy so i could build a snowman.

i spent yesterday afternoon making christmas presents. the project: cookie cutter snowmen christmas tree ornaments for a few friends, my grandmas and my mom.

i also almost finished my secret santa's present yesterday, but who knows if my secret santa keeps an eye on this. we can't let her find out. :P

i'm sure i'll have more winter-themed posts coming in the next month, week and three days. :D yeah. i'm excited for christmas.

oooh! a new scarf. i decided i wanted to recreate this scarf from dELiA*s, only (hopefully) better quality. so some lovely mohair blend yarn from joann's combined with some gold sequins, i came up with this lovely scarf.

it's about six feet long not including the fringe (that's another foot and two inches or so.) so it's a good deal taller than me. i love it. it wraps around my next two or three times and still goes to my knees.

now, on to christmas presents. i love christmas time. i've already broken out the christmas music, and after next weekend, i'll be going full blast christmas - i get to see the rockettes on the 19th! :D
